St. Saviour’s

I heard the voice that I love best
say, ‘Come with me and get some rest,
and find a little comfort where
the saints are known and loved and blessed.”

And so I climbed the silent stair
and stepped into the sanctuar’
at once to find all fear and stress
confronted with a holy air.

Compassion filled the ancient place
and softness touched my fix’ed face,
a presence like a friend was there
and met my sudden tears with grace.

So there I stayed and prayed and cried
until I felt my courage rise,
and somehow lifted up with care
I climbed back down the silent stair,

And now again I’m all alive.
